First, slow down
Continuing to enter the same information that has already been rejected multiple times can get your card frozen by the issuing institution.
To resolve a declined payment, you’ll need to figure out why the payment was declined. Usually this involves contacting your bank or credit card company. Their phone number can usually be found on the signature side of the card. Also, if a transaction can’t be completed:
- Check the basics and see if you’ve entered the correct credit card number, expiration date and CVCcard code. Be sure the card hasn’t expired.
- Check if your billing address matches your address on your credit or debit card account. The most common reason for a decline is wrong billing zip/postal code.
- Your card might have transaction restrictions. To find out your restrictions, contact the institution that issued your card.
- If there’s a lack of funds, a transaction can be declined. To find out if you have enough funds, check your account by contacting the institution that issued your card.
- Try a different payment method.

Although our website does not list the full decline reason for security purposes, these are the most common issues to check (in order of likelihood).
Billing Address
If you’ve recently moved, make sure the card issuer’s system reflects your true current address. This website uses the Address Verification System (AVS) to verify the address of a person claiming to own a credit card. The system will check the billing address of the credit card provided with the address on file at the credit card company. If it does not match, it will be declined. Non-US Cards will also be declined. Your billing address may be different than your shipping address.
CVC
Card Verification Code. Also known as CVV (Card Verification Value), CSC (Card Security Code), as well as CVV2 numbers. This is a 3 digit number on VISA®, MasterCard® and Discover® branded credit and debit cards. On your American Express® branded credit or debit card it is a 4 digit numeric code. CVC numbers are NOT your card’s secret PIN (Personal Identification Number). Your CVC number can be located by looking on your credit or debit card. See example
Do Not Honor
For transactions that are restricted / blocked by the bank that issued the card. We recommend you call the number on the back of your credit card to speak with the bank about the decline. Ask the bank to allow the transaction. Otherwise, you will need to provide an alternate method of payment.
Insufficient Funds
No money, no credit. If you are using a debit card and your account has insufficient funds, the transaction will be declined. Similarly, if you’re using a credit card and you’ve hit your credit limit (or you’ve missed too many payments), the purchase will not go through.
Card Number
Card number or expiration date entered is incorrect. There are 16 digits for Visa, MasterCard and Discover, 15 digits for American Express. It is common to overlook a set of digits as it appears on the card. Please look carefully.
