October 1, 2019There is some wild myth being circulated that there are very few “pure” alcoholics left and therefore singleness of purpose is no longer valid. Recent statistics prove otherwise. Alcoholics have many other problems some related to alcoholism; some created by alcoholism and other day-to-day problems that are just part of living. When someone comes to Alcoholics Anonymous and we send him or her to meetings we expect we are sending them to a place where “AA is spoken” and that our “primary purpose” to help the alcoholic who still suffers is carried out.
Here are some recent statistics on alcohol abuse:
- People seek treatment for alcohol more than any other substance
- Alcohol is the most abused drug among people in recovery, as Recovery Brands revealed with a 2017 survey. The survey found that a shocking 52.87% of respondents sought the most treatment for alcohol abuse.
- Despite the wide variety of abused substances individuals seek treatment for, alcohol seems to cause the most widespread harm. Fortunately, recovery can start with one simple call.
